The Strong Island Derby Revolution’s (SIDR) Slaughters squad took to the track this weekend for a special Friends and Family scrimmage, where they faced off against Bux-Mont Perkiomen Punishers for the first time.

The scrimmage marked the debut of Cadet Kas as the official Jam Timer, a critical role in ensuring smooth gameplay. In addition, the return of SIDR alumni skater Faith No More #1701, now playing for Bux-Mont, was a sentimental highlight for many, as she returned to Long Island to compete against her former team. Donned in gold bandanas and ribbons in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Slaughters geared up ready to put on an amazing show for their loved ones.

A Fierce Battle From the Start

Both teams came out strong, delivering a game filled with skill, strategy, and resilience. Bux-Mont quickly made their mark in the first period, dominating the first four jams. SIDR, however, was not to be outdone. Sirius Smacks #390, one of the newer skaters on the Slaughters, became the first SIDR jammer to earn lead jammer status, showcasing the team’s determination to close the gap.

Jam 13 was a pivotal moment for SIDR when the offense, led by Helluva Fite #813, Billie Loomis #202, DiTanic #1912, and Torinado #236, worked in perfect harmony to clear the way for jammer Cookie CutHer #375. Their combined effort helped SIDR surge forward, although they still trailed 38-50 at the end of Jam 20.

The turning point came in Jam 21 when Cookie CutHer scored an impressive 15 points, catapulting SIDR into the lead for the first time. At the close of the first half, SIDR was on top with a slim 57-54 lead, setting the stage for an intense second period.

A Nail-Biting Second Half

The second period was defined by tight scores and thrilling lead changes. By Jam 3, the score was tied at 61-61, foreshadowing the intense back-and-forth that was to come. Bux-Mont briefly took the lead after Jam 4, but SIDR responded in kind during Jam 9, reclaiming control with a 90-85 lead.

One of the key narratives of the match was the return of Faith No More #1701, a former SIDR skater, who took to the track as a member of Bux-Mont. Her presence added another layer of excitement as she skated against her former teammates.

Bux-Mont’s standout performance in the second half came in Jam 13, where they once again pulled ahead, 95-97. Both teams fought tooth and nail as the final jam approached, and while each squad scored 12 points in a frenzied last effort, Bux-Mont edged out SIDR by just five points, winning 131-126.

Most Valuable Players (MVPs)

Cookie CutHer #375 proved to be the Slaughters' most potent offensive weapon, racking up a total of 42 points, the most by any SIDR skater throughout the bout. Her incredible effort earned her the title of SIDR’s MVP Jammer.

Killjoy Knockdown #1010 was named SIDR’s MVP Blocker for her tenacious defense and timely blocks, while Bux-Mont’s Lauranimal #30 and Cataclysm #224 earned the jammer and blocker MVP honors for their team, respectively.

Hits & Heart

Despite the narrow loss, SIDR’s Slaughters demonstrated remarkable teamwork, skill, and spirit throughout the scrimmage. As the game wrapped up with both teams exchanging high-fives and smiles, it was clear that the bond within the roller derby community is as strong as ever. SIDR’s focus on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month added even more significance to this unforgettable match, showing that derby is about more than just the score—it’s about heart.
